For cancer, exercise could be the key to recovery
Dr. Donald McKenzie, along with Dr. Kerry Courneya recently contributed an article to the Globe and Mail about new research on exercise and colon cancer. The study found that patients assigned to the structured exercise program had significantly better recurrence and survival rates.

Kootenay Robusters join 30th anniversary of breast cancer survivor dragon boating
Four members of the Kootenay Robusters Dragon Boat Team competed in the Abreast In A Boat 30th Anniversary Division June 20-22, 2025 as part of Pink Sisters International, a composite crew made up of breast cancer survivors from across North America.

The Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Festival kicks off June 20-22, celebrating the 30th anniversary of Abreast In A Boat and a global movement that started in Vancouver. CBC News’ Shivani Joshi reports.
Celebrating 30 Years of Reclaiming Strength, Resilience and Joy Through Dragon Boat Paddling
It all began in 1996 when a group of women aged 31 to 62 joined a groundbreaking study to challenge the belief that breast cancer survivors should avoid upper body exercise.
From that single team, a global movement was born. Today, there are 380 breast cancer dragon boat teams in 40 countries. In 2025, Abreast In A Boat marks its 30th Anniversary, and to celebrate, they’re inviting the world to Vancouver.
