| Joining
AIAB
Abreast In A Boat (AIAB) is a floating support group, a symbol of
hope, and a vivid demonstration that you can have a full and active
life after cancer.
We welcome all breast cancer survivors who want paddle with our
organization; we have no age restriction and you do not need to
have any previous experience with dragonboating or any other sport.
What you do need is to:
-
Be a breast
cancer survivor.
-
-
Have completed
all treatment, preferably at least six months prior to the beginning
of the paddling season.
-
Be able to resume
an aerobic and strength-training program four months prior to
the beginning of the paddling season.
-
Have no neck,
back or shoulder problems that would be aggravated by paddling.
-
-
Commit to attending
two practices per week during the paddling season (April 1 to
June 30th).
-
Attend a mandatory
Novice Orientation meeting usually held in November. Interested candidates will be informed of the date.
At this meeting you will learn all about Abreast In A Boat,
have an opportunity to ask questions, and be able to pick up
your membership application. To join AIAB next paddling season
you must attend this meeting, but you may also want to attend
to find out more information if you are thinking ahead to the
following season.
| If
you would like to join Abreast In A Boat but do not yet feel
ready to paddle, or you are not a breast cancer survivor,
you can become an Associate Member of the organization.
