Joining AIAB

Abreast In A Boat (AIAB) is a floating support group, a symbol of hope, and a vivid demonstration that you can have a full and active life after cancer.

We welcome all breast cancer survivors who want paddle with our organization; we have no age restriction and you do not need to have any previous experience with dragonboating or any other sport. What you do need is to:

1. Be a breast cancer survivor.

2.
Contact Bunny Rosse at newmembers@abreastinaboat.com.

3.
Have completed all treatment, preferably at least six months prior to the beginning of the paddling season.

4.
Be able to resume an aerobic and strength-training program four months prior to the beginning of the paddling season.

5.
Have no neck, back or shoulder problems that would be aggravated by paddling.

6.
Commit to following AIAB's fitness program. View the Training Guide Section of the Team Manual

7.
Commit to attending two practices per week during the paddling season (late March to early July).

Attend a Novice Orientation meeting. Interested candidates will be informed of the date.
At this meeting you will learn all about Abreast In A Boat, have an opportunity to ask questions, and be able to pick up your membership application. To join AIAB next paddling season you must attend this meeting, but you may also want to attend to find out more information if you are thinking ahead to the following season.
