Water Safe Women

Fifteen brave and/or funloving women spent two Saturday evenings in Britannia Pool in March, in this brilliant new program initiated by Maria Hindmarch. Non-swimmers learned to float, glide, breathe, or just put their faces in the water; weak swimmers got pointers to help them improve, and the really good swimmers assisted. Special thanks to Jo-ann Hilton whose skill and patience as a volunteer coach was much appreciated. In addition we had two coaches and a lifeguard from Britannia’s pool staff, so we were very well taken care of. It was fabulous!

These pictures are all from the second evening, when we wore full “boat gear” and found out how buoyant our PFD’s are and how to huddle together to keep warm in the event of a dunking.

Unfortunately the battery in Jo-ann’s camera gave out before we could get a shot of us all lined up in the hot tub at the end of the session.

I predict this will become an annual event for AIAB. It was just too much fun and too valuable, not to be repeated.
