Scotiabank Half Marathon 5K Run / Walk
in the Rain

Sunday morning, June 24th, 2007 was a good day to stay in bed!

But no, 20+ Abreast in a Boat members were up and out, making their way to Stanley Park to (wo)man the AIAB water station. That’s not all – we actually had 3 members running the half marathon: Lisa Andersen of the Cove, Orrie Babiuk of Barnet and Rebecca Chapman of Staying Abreast.

Way to go – that’s 22 km! Lots more AIAB members ran/walked the 5 km route as well. It was a very wet morning and everyone was soaked at the end. Shoes made squishy noises and rain dripped down necks and sleeves. Sound familiar? Well dragonboating is a water sport! The water station was festive with pink balloons and umbrellas to welcome all the runners and walkers. Some of us made sure that the athletes were hydrated with water and gatorade but many could have gone for a coffee! In very typical West Coast style, after the event the rain stopped and the sun broke through the clouds shining over our beautiful city!
