Our Gift Bags - More Novice Power in Action

Barb Baker

Were you pleasantly surprised to receive your lovely gift bag (pink of course!) at a recent practice?

It was the brain child of Barb Baker, an energetic novice with the Staying Abreast crew in False Creek. Barb is a skin care instructor who also enjoys creating fiber art when she is not paddling or on the water.

Barb mentioned that she wanted to do a special project for the AIAB members and created the gift bag idea around the importance of skin care especially for us paddlers.

Barb’s employer, Blanche Macdonald Centre was supportive of the idea and provided the specially designed black cosmetic bags. Various other companies were approached by Barb and were also generous with information and product samples.

Barb arranged a time at the Centre for several of us to fill the gift bags. It was quite an assembly line. Under her direction Sharon Clements, Janet Andrews, Diane McNair, Valerie Lamb, Joyce Booth, friend Marilyn, Deb Thiessen and I distributed the goods. We were able to take photos (of course) with the Blanche Macdonald Assistant Director Barbara Johnson receiving a framed photo of the six crews.

A big hug and thanks to Barb!
